Two towns in Texas have had vastly different experiences with the coronavirus pandemic. One is virtually unaffected, while the other has been hard hit. VOA takes a look and explains why.

On Aug. 6, 1928, pop artist Andy Warhol is born Andy Warhola in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His career in art began as a commercial illustrator in the late 1940s, but he began painting in the late 1950s. He is renowned for his 1960s paintings of consumer goods, including soup cans, soda cans and blown-up depictions of comic strips. He also made silk screen paintings, with images of actress Marilyn Monroe and former first lady Jackie Kennedy among the most notable. Warhol’s influence peaked in the 1960s, ebbed in the 1970s and then rose again in the 1980s. He died in 1987.

Plugged In with Greta Van Susteren examines the challenges posed by the pandemic with Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.

The U.S. State Department says it has exposed Russia’s information warfare tactics, including using a combination of “official, proxy, and unattributed communication channels and platforms” to create and amplify false narratives.

The U.S. designation last week of a new, Turkey-based member of the notorious Rawi Network, which allegedly facilitates money transfers to Islamic State in Syria, has raised fresh concerns among observers that jihadists continue to use Turkey to fund their activities in Syria.

 

 

The African continent is fast approaching 1 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, with South Africa alone accounting for more than 500,000 cases.
