U.S. President Donald Trump says he is open to another summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, even as Pyongyang signals it is uninterested in resuming stalled nuclear talks.

On July 8, 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry leads a squadron of U.S. Navy ships into Tokyo Bay, which led to an end to centuries of Japan’s near isolation. Perry would return to Japan a year later and officially sign the Treaty of Kanagawa, which opened ports and allowed for diplomatic missions. Relations with the U.S. had a domino effect, and soon, many other countries signed treaties with Japan, eventually leading to the fall of the shogunate and rapid modernization.

In a major victory for U.S. President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the administration’s plan to exempt employers with a religious or moral objection from a mandate requiring them to provide free birth control coverage to their employees.

Analysts say Turkey’s deepening involvement in the Libyan conflict could be the catalyst for a reset in relations with the United States, which have been strained by regional policy differences and mutual distrust. 

As Ghana’s confirmed numbers of COVID-19 cases keep rising, the government is urging citizens to take their health seriously and do regular exercise. Although social distancing has made going to the gym a challenge, health experts say fancy equipment is not needed.

China has agreed to restart talks with worried Southeast Asian countries on a maritime code of conduct to restore its image abroad after COVID-19 and months of reminders that it’s the waterway’s most militarily powerful country.
