Many of Europe’s young have practiced social distancing and observed lock downs, determined to do their bit to protect the elderly and those more vulnerable to the coronavirus. But there is also growing worry and anger among them.

On April 21, 1980, Rosie Ruiz finishes first in the Boston Marathon with a time of 2:31:56, the third fastest time for a woman and a 25-minute improvement from her performance at the New York Marathon in 1979. This raised suspicions among many, and eight days later Ruiz was stripped of her win when officials revealed she’d jumped into the race just a mile before the finish line. It was later revealed that during the New York race, she’d ridden the subway part of the way.

Many economists say coronavirus will likely spark a global recession rivaling the Great Depression. But there are good reasons to believe that once the virus is under control, financial markets will bounce back much faster than they did in the 1930s. However, what shape the economy takes when that rebound occurs is far from clear.

South Korea’s government is disputing reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is seriously ill after undergoing heart surgery.
