On February 13, 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt delivers a stirring speech on improving race relations in the United States. A great deal of bitterness still existed between North and South, and a recent influx of Asian immigrants in the West contributed to racial tensions. Roosevelt, who had just won his second term, made an argument for race equality, saying the debasement of blacks also debases whites. |
