On This Day in American History |

On January 8, 1877, Native American leader Crazy Horse and his warriors fight their last battle against the U.S. Cavalry in Montana. Crazy Horse resisted calls for the Lakota tribe to move to reservations. Six months earlier, Crazy Horse, and ally Chief Sitting Bull, defeated Lt. Col. George Custer in the Battle of Little Bighorn, later known as ‘Custer’s Last Stand.’ This time, Crazy Horse and his men were outnumbered and forced to use bows and arrows. He surrendered a few months later. Some say this photo is not authentic because he refused to be photographed for most of his life. |
