On October 23, 1983, a suicide bomber drives a truck laden with explosives into the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 241. A similar attack on a French barracks killed 58 French soldiers the same day. President Ronald Reagan vowed to keep the U.S.-led peace keeping mission in Lebanon, but withdrew U.S. forces months after the attack. |
