VIDEO: “Tamalewood” is what the locals of Albuquerque, New Mexico, affectionately call the exploding TV and film industry there. The momentum has grown since enticing tax incentives for filming in New Mexico have led to billion dollar deals between leading production companies and Albuquerque Studios. 

On This Day in American History
On October 23, 1983, a suicide bomber drives a truck laden with explosives into the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 241. A similar attack on a French barracks killed 58 French soldiers the same day. President Ronald Reagan vowed to keep the U.S.-led peace keeping mission in Lebanon, but withdrew U.S. forces months after the attack.

Hong Kong’s legislature on Wednesday formally killed the extradition bill that sparked four months of anti-government protests. On the same day, the murder suspect at the center of this issue was released from jail in Hong Kong and said he plans to turn himself in to Taiwanese authorities.

The recent nuclear negotiations between the United States and North Korea were substantive and lasted longer than anticipated, according to a Swedish diplomat who helped arrange the talks.

Today’s American men are working less during their prime years than they did in the 1960s, with the biggest drop in employment among less-educated men.
