Two-thirds of all mass shooting attacks in the United States in 2018 were carried out by someone who was experiencing mental health problems. And in more than one-third of the attacks, the perpetrator committed suicide at the scene of the attack or shortly after leaving.

On July 10, 1962, the U.S. Patent Office, now the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, issues a patent for the three-point seat belt. The inventor was Swede Nils Bohlin, who worked for the Swedish automaker Volvo. Four years later, Congress passed a law requiring all new cars to include the three-point seat belt. While there have been some tweaks to Bohlin’s original, today’s seat belts are basically his design. Seat belts are credited with reducing traffic fatalities by 50%, and today it is estimated that more than 80% of Americans wear them when driving.

A U.S. court ruling that it is unconstitutional for President Donald Trump to block critics on Twitter has reignited criticism of politicians who ban detractors from their social media accounts.

Kim Darroch, Britain’s ambassador to the United States, resigned Wednesday, saying it was “impossible” to continue in his role following the leak of diplomatic cables in which he attacked President Donald Trump.

As part of its big push to expand solar energy, India is now lighting up such areas with tens of thousands of solar street lamps.
