For many Americans, June 14 comes and goes without them realizing it is Flag Day, which commemorates the official adoption, on June 14, 1777, of the U.S. flag by the Second Continental Congress. The American flag has had many iterations, evolving from an unofficial banner into a government-sanctioned version in 1777.

On June 14, 1998, the Chicago Bulls, led by superstar Michael Jordan, win their third straight National Basketball championship. Jordan scored 45 points in the Game Six win over the Utah Jazz, including hitting the go-ahead shot late in the game. Jordan’s Bulls team won every NBA championship between 1991 and 1998 except for 1994 and 1995 when Jordan was pursuing a career in Major League Baseball. Jordan retired soon after the win, but returned to the game  from 2001 to 2003 as a member of the Washington Wizards. The Bulls haven’t won a championship since.

The Trump administration hopes within days to conclude a deal with Guatemala that would block Central Americans from seeking asylum in the U.S.

The climbing season for Mount Everest recently ended, following the return of colder weather and hurricane-force winds at the world’s highest peak. This year was the deadliest climbing season since 2015, and images of a traffic jam of climbers trying to reach Everest’s summit renewed questions about how to manage dangerous overcrowding on the peak.

Joe Biden is holding on, Elizabeth Warren is surging, and President Donald Trump is fuming about recent polls and a Democratic presidential field he says is to the extreme left. It is all part of the latest ups and downs of the 2020 presidential campaign.

VIDEO: New York City has countless attractions for its many visitors, but now there is a new and very unusual tourist draw: whale watching.  It seems more and more whales are being spotted near Manhattan, and environmentalists say it’s an encouraging sign the water is becoming cleaner.
