On March 22, 1930, American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim is born. A giant of American musical theater, Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for such classics as A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, Follies and A Little Night Music, among many others. Sondheim has won an Academy Award, eight Tony awards, eight Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
