On Feb. 6, 1911, the 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan, is born in Tampico, Ill. Reagan took office in 1981 and served until 1989. He was also the first actor elected to the nation’s highest office, whereas most prior presidents were lawyers or had served in the military. Reagan had been a Democrat, but changed parties in 1960. At the 1964 Republican National Convention, Reagan gave a rousing speech, which many think launched his political career. Reagan also served as governor of California from 1967 to 1975. He died in 2004.
