VIDEO: Tap dancing is a uniquely American art form that dates back to the 1800s, when a melting pot of ethnic percussive dances blended African tribal dances with English clog dancing, with a bit of Scottish hornpipes and jigs. It is making a resurgence.

On This Day in American History
On October 11, 1968, the first manned Apollo mission, Apollo 7, launches carrying astronauts Walter M. Schirra, Jr., Donn F. Eisele and Walter Cunningham. It was the first manned U.S. mission to space since Gemini XII, launched in 1966. Apollo 7 orbited the Earth for almost 11 days and sent back the first live television footage from space. Less than one year later, Apollo 11 became the first manned mission to land on the moon.    

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg rejoined the Democratic Party on Wednesday, signaling an interest in running as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020.

VIDEO: An estimated 44 million people 65 years and older worldwide have Alzheimer’s, the most common cause of dementia. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative brain disorder that causes memory loss, and impairs thinking, judgment and problem solving. So far, scientists have not found a drug that can stop the disease. But a research program in the United States is trying to prevent it by targeting the earliest changes in the brain while memory and thinking skills are still intact.

VIDEO: The U.S. Navy’s Comfort hospital ship departed Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia this week. During its 11-week “Enduring Promise” medical assistance mission, it will visit several Central and South American countries. The goal of the deployment is to help alleviate pressure on the medical systems of host nations, in part because of the increase in Venezuelan migrants.
