VIDEO: Thousands of Nicaraguans are leaving the country and heading to Costa Rica in the midst of a political crisis that erupted more than four months ago. Daily protests against the government and violent confrontations with the police have caused an unstable situation in the country. The Nicaraguans are crowding Costa Rican streets and living in parks. Their presence is sparking protests.

On August 21, 1959, the United States flag received its 50th star as then-president Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed Hawaii as the 50th state. Hawaii was first settled by Polynesian people sometime in the 8th century. American traders arrived in the 18th century seeking sandalwood to trade with China. Later, Hawaii was a massive sugar producer. The U.S. annexed Hawaii after the Spanish-American War and later, it officially became a U.S. territory.      

Between 2014 and 2016, millions of college and university students left school without a degree, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Nearly one in five students who left school without a degree had completed at least 75 percent of their program requirements. And nearly one in 10 had completed at least 90 percent.

As the November midterm congressional elections draw closer, Republicans are keeping a close eye on President Donald Trump’s public approval rating as they vie to maintain control over the House and Senate. Democrats are hoping a “blue wave” returns control to them.

About 250,000 pieces of multicolored and iridescent glass sit in a warehouse on an industrial block in Long Island City, Queens, which houses the largest collection of Tiffany glass. It’s a welcome tribute to Louis Tiffany, an American artist who many believe transformed the history of stained glass with his unique artistry — essentially creating paintings out of glass.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s trial in Alexandria, Virginia, is one of two criminal cases brought against him by special counsel Robert Mueller. The charges stem from Manafort’s decade-long lobbying and political consulting work for Ukraine’s former president, Viktor Yanukovych.
