She’s on her way to becoming the first African refugee to serve in Congress. Ilhan Omar likes to point out that she’s also a millennial with student debt and a renter. Tuesday night Omar became the Democrat nominee for one of Minnesota’s Congressional seats. And, because she doesn’t face opposition in November’s general election, Omar is poised to make history as the first African-born immigrant, and the second Muslim American woman, elected to the US Congress.

The White House is defending itself against accusations of silencing aides through the use of nondisclosure agreements. The allegations come on the heels of an ongoing saga between the president and fired White House worker Omarosa Manigault Newman, who has been making public secret recordings that she claimed to have made during her time working for President Trump. Requiring White House workers to sign NDAs raises the question of whether the government is violating the First Amendment by censoring speech.

Alexa is your new roommate. At least that’s the case for students at St. Louis University in the Midwestern state of Missouri. The university is putting the electronic voice-controlled assistants in every student housing room on campus. The Amazon Echo is a speaker with the ability to listen and talk to users, and will eventually provide personalized information about classes and grades.

VIDEO: Science and art go hand-in-hand at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the largest art museum in the United States. Teen visitors recently became art detectives and learned how chemistry, physics and geology are all key to determining how to separate original pieces of art from the fakes.

VIDEO: Back in the day, beer makers didn’t know why beer fermented. They’d mix water, hops and malt and end up with beer. The earliest recipes for beer typically left out a key ingredient, one that makes the biggest splash.
