A top US military official calls North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ‘a man of his word.’ The commander of US Forces-Korea says language and actions from Pyongyang have ‘signaled a change in direction, perhaps a change in calculus that we had been looking for.’

On July 23, 1829, American inventor William Austin Burt patents the earliest version of the typewriter, known as a typographer. The typographer types clear and neat letters but does not become a commercial success because it is considered to have been invented before its time. No market is found for the device during the inventor’s lifetime.

ASYLUM EXPLAINER: To be granted asylum in the United States, applicants must meet three requirements. The US government can deny requests if it finds an applicant fails to meet one of these requirements. And even after asylum is granted, it can be rescinded.

VIDEO: US lawmakers are working to prevent foreign meddling in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections. The Justice Department says cyber criminals targeted 21 states in the last presidential election. Officials are developing a number of measures to prevent a repeat of the Russian interference uncovered in the 2016 elections.

When women out-earn their mate, husbands talk themselves up while wives do the opposite. When responding to income surveys, the men tend to exaggerate their income, as opposed to what they report to the Internal Revenue Service, while women understate how much they make.
