On May 9, 1960, the U.S. becomes the first country to legalize a birth control pill when the Food and Drug Administration announces it will allow a medication called Enovid to be prescribed to prevent conception. “The pill,” as oral contraception was widely called, is easier to use and more reliable than many other forms of birth control, giving women more control over if and when they will have children. |
