President Trump is clearly concerned about what big wins by Democrats in November’s midterm elections could do to his presidency.  As he continues to hold rallies-even though he’s not running himself-he warns his supporters not to be complacent.  But opinion polls and history are not on the president’s side.

On This Day in American History
On May 4, 1970, members of the Ohio National Guard open fire on unarmed protestors at Kent State University who were opposed to the U.S. bombing in Cambodia as part of the war in Vietnam.  Four students are killed and 9 others were wounded.  The tragedy helps fuel growing opposition and frustration with military action in Southeast Asia.

Twin brothers Brandon and Bradley posted videos of their basketball highlights in the hopes of getting recruited to play college ball. They didn’t end up playing basketball for a living, but their video venture did provide them with successful careers.  They now run a web site – backed by several NBA players – that streams highlights from players around the country.

As preparations are being made for President Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un to hold an historic summit, activists and academics are urging the president not to sacrifice human rights to achieve denuclearization.

Wednesday’s deadly suicide bombing of Libya’s election commission is the most sophisticated terror attack the country has suffered since 2015. Analysts say it underlines the dangers Libya will need to navigate in the months ahead as divided authorities, encouraged by the United Nations, seek to hold a nationwide poll.

Chinese businesses are eager to expand their presence on the world stage. Not content to be among the world largest producers of consumer and electronic goods, a Malaysian businessman and his Chinese partners have set their sights on a traditional American past time – horse racing. As VOA’s Abby Sun reports, two horses, partly owned by the China Horse Club are among the top contenders to win this weekend’s Kentucky Derby.

Virtual reality experiences are becoming more physical and more interactive. No longer just a “lean back” experience, the immersive technology is taking viewers out of the living room and into entirely new worlds. At the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, VOA’s Tina Trinh met with creators who are pushing the boundaries of the digital and physical divide.
