Students, spies and US college campuses. Are some international students and foreign-born professors at US universities spies secretly gathering information, scientific secrets, or cultivating sources? At universities across the country, espionage is being carried out under the guise of global education, according to the FBI. VOA examines the spy threat in academia.

On This Day in American History
On April 2, 1917, US President Woodrow Wilson asks Congress to declare war against Germany in World War l, saying, ‘The world must be made safe for democracy.’ The request comes one day after Germany torpedoes the armed US steamer Aztec, killing 28 crew members.

Being labeled an extremist, or a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, is not unusual for Jeremy McLellan, a white, Christian performer from South Carolina. The stand-up comedian uses sarcasm and humor to explore the commonalities between Christians and Muslims. The use of comedy to bridge the religious divide isn’t new, according to a Muslim scholar, who says interfaith humor goes back all the way to the Prophet Muhammad.

Hamburgers just might be Americans’ favorite food but there’s a juicy new type of burger that’s only 75 percent meat. These blended burgers are healthier for both people and the planet because the remaining 25 percent of the patty is made of mushroom, but you’d never know it.

QUICK TAKE VIDEO:  The federal government and some US states are clashing over immigration policy. The governor of California has gone as far as to accuse the Trump administration of declaring war on his state. These types of skirmishes are not exactly new — the states have been at odds with the federal government throughout history.
