China’s potential president for life is carving out an increasingly prominent role for China on the world stage. One of the places where Xi Jinping is expanding his country’s footprint is in Africa, where Beijing’s security and economic interests are deepening. Some see China’s presence in Africa as a testing ground for a new kind of multilayered engagement around the world.

Deporting a foreign national from the United States doesn’t always go as planned. Before deporting someone, US authorities must have a removal order and travel documents from the deportee’s country or a valid passport from that country. But both require cooperation from foreign countries and that’s not always easy to come by.

African entrepreneurs are among those who attend the South by Southwest music, film and tech festival looking for potential investors or partners. One place Africans can find networking opportunities is at SXSW’s Africa House, a new venture where Africans can meet members of the US diaspora and fellow Africans.
