Native Americans were forced to abandon their traditional diet once the US Army slaughtered buffalo to near extinction. Tribes ate government rations of flour, oil and coffee, which were gradually replaced by processed, packaged foods. Lakota tribal member Charles “Bamm” Brewer believes the solution lies in returning to a traditional diet of wild fruits and vegetables — and, of course, buffalo. |
