Kitten chaos is what you get after combining cuddly cats and an emerging technology that many are still struggling to understand. CryptoKitties was created to explain the abstract concepts of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. What few expected was for the online game’s cheerful, user-friendly interface to cause its popularity to surge, resulting in more than $16 million in transactions relating to the purchase, breeding and sale of digital kittens.

On This Day in American History
On December 19, 1998, President Bill Clinton is impeached by the House of Representatives. As only the second sitting president in be impeached in US history, Clinton is charged with lying under oath and obstructing justice in connection with his affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He is also the first sitting president to give testimony — via closed-circuit television — to a grand jury investigating his conduct. The president will eventually be acquitted on both articles of impeachment. The prosecution will need a two-thirds majority to convict but will fail to garner even a bare majority. It was a horrific journey for more than 700 Cameroon migrants who were stranded in Libya and are now back home, thanks to an aid group. Facing joblessness and hardship at home, the migrants say they left Cameroon seeking greener pastures in North Africa and Europe. Instead, they were raped, robbed, arrested and often forced into slavery.

VIDEO: Police work isn’t horse play for one of the country’s first branches of law enforcement. Founded by George Washington in 1791, US Park Police oversee all federal parks, but only a few officers get to work like the country’s first president…on horseback.

Reviving Zimbabwe’s struggling economy is job one for the country’s ruling party now that long-time leader Robert Mugabe has stepped down. In an interview with VOA’s Zimbabwe service, retired general Sibusiso Moyo, who’s been appointed to serve as foreign minister, says ZANU-PF hopes to jump start the ailing economy by collaborating with Zimbabweans abroad.

VIDEO: Larger than life. In downtown Los Angeles, on the side of a 14-story apartment building, artist Robert Vargas is creating what he hopes will be the world’s largest mural ever done by an individual artist. Vargas is of Mexican and Native American descent and says his finished product will be a tribute to a multicultural metropolis.

Some Cambodians who weren’t even born in Cambodia face deportation from the US after being convicted of a felony. About 50 were scheduled to be sent back to Cambodia on Monday before a California court temporarily halted the deportation. Most of the people involved fled to the US as child refugees during or after the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, but never obtained full citizenship.
