President Trump announced a new national security strategy to provide the country with a “clear and actionable playbook” to counter the most dangerous and persistent threats.  Some analysts warn, however, that the new strategy’s emphasis on U.S. economic interests could actually weaken U.S. attempts to compete against key rivals on the word stage.

On December 18, 1865, Secretary of State William H. Seward certified that the 13th Amendment to the Constitution had been ratified by three-fourths of the states, and was therefore adopted.  The amendment abolished slavery in the U.S.
