On November 24, 1947, Congress cites the ‘Hollywood Ten’ as ‘unfriendly witnesses’ after they refuse to answer questions about alleged Communist influence in the movie industry while appearing before the House Un-American Activities Committee. The group of directors, producers and screenwriters is sentenced to one year in jail. At the same time, 50 top Hollywood executives decide to blacklist the Hollywood Ten.
