Kieu Hoang might be known in his native Vietnam for his flamboyant Gucci suits and love affairs with lingerie models, but in the United States he is admired for his generosity. Like many refugees, Hoang struggled when he first came to the US, accepting help from charity groups while working several jobs to support his family. Today, Hoang is paying it forward by donating millions to help Houstonians rebuild after Hurricane Harvey. And, he recently gave $5 million to the city of San Jose to help flood victims, including many immigrants from Latin America and Vietnam.

However, critics say authorities aren’t pushing public outreach hard enough because they don’t want to scare people off.

Tuning out. During his first nine months in office, President Trump regularly taped a weekly radio address, continuing a presidential tradition that started with Franklin Roosevelt in 1933, and was revived by Ronald Reagan in 1982. But since October 13, the president has gone silent on the radio while staying active on Twitter, a method of communication that might be more in sync with his personality.
