Pakistan’s first female police chief is breaking barriers in a conservative province where women are often encouraged to stay at home. Rizwana Hameed, who says her presence at the police station encourages more women to report crimes, doesn’t find her new job difficult. On This Day in American History
On August 9, 1974, Vice President Gerald R. Ford is sworn in as president after Richard M. Nixon ends his term as the 37th president of the United States at noon. Although Hun Sen sometimes ruled ruthlessly over the past 32 years, his increasingly active social media presence is showing voters the prime minister’s his warm and fuzzy side.

Ever since a Minnesota mosque was fire-bombed over the weekend, many community members, mainly non-Muslims, have visited the mosque to show solidarity, including the state’s governor along hundreds of people who gathered Tuesday night. All while the FBI continues to investigate.

If you think ketchup is an all-American condiment, think again. A professor of food history who literally wrote the book on ketchup, says the condiment’s story begins over 500 years ago — in Southeast Asia.
