Few foods are as all-American as barbecue, which is particularly popular during the summer months, and can be as diverse as the country itself. Developed in the Caribbean, regional barbecue styles were cultivated by the rise of restaurants, which helped spur fierce pride and friendly barbecue rivalries.

On August 1, 1941, the first jeep debuts just 49 days after the US military challenges American auto makers to develop a fast, lightweight, all-terrain vehicle for Allied use during World War II. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower later proclaims America could not have won the war without the jeep.

Eating like a horse is a problem if you’re one of thousands of wild equines roaming across Western ranges and reservations. The average adult horse consumes more than two-and-a-half kilos of grass and 75 liters of water a day, which can have a damaging effect on the environment. Congress and Native American leaders concur the wild horses are a problem, but can’t agree on a solution.

For months, desperate Venezuelans have used the Simón Bolívar International Bridge to reach the border city of Cúcuta, Colombia. Some are fleeing political and economic unrest, while others stock up on food and medicine that’s hard to find back home. Recently, the span also served as a backdrop for a plea for peace after recent Venezuelan elections that could tip the country into dictatorship, triggering more violence.

The bus stops here. Cambodia is trying to get it right when it comes to its public bus service, which resumed in 2014 after a failed pilot project in 2001. Up to 8,000 Cambodians take the bus daily, but after spending time with riders in Phnom Penh, VOA learns public transportation there is still a work in progress.
