France is known for its wine, food and culture, but will it also be home to a new Silicon Valley? President Emmanuel Macron, who wants his country to become a global hub for tech startups, is loosening government restrictions, while the world’s biggest startup campus is set to open soon in Paris, with the aim of encouraging entrepreneurs to launch their startups in the land of wine and cheese.

On June 30, 1936, Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind, the epic historical novel set against the sweeping backdrop of the US Civil War, is published. Although the book draws criticism for romanticizing slavery and the antebellum South, Gone with the Wind is an instant sensation and becomes one of the bestselling novels of all time. The movie based on the novel is one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing films ever and wins nine Academy Awards.

India is about to roll out its most ambitious tax plan ever transforming a country of 1.3 billion people into a single market. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) replaces a tangle of confusing levies with a single tax that will bring down barriers between states. But change is never easy and the transition has sparked strikes, protests and concerns that many Indian businesses aren’t ready to leap into a digital economy.

China has hit pause on three major live streaming services. All television, radio and newspaper media is state controlled in China, but some independently run live streaming platforms have started stealing a big chunk of state TV’s audience. From the age of 4, Prumsodun Ok knew he wanted to be an apsara dancer.
