It has been a year since Britain voted to leave the European Union by a narrow margin. The Brexit vote exposed deep divisions in the country and, after 12 months of political turmoil, some analysts say British society is beginning to resemble that of the United States.

On This Day in American History
On June 27, 1950, President Harry Truman orders US air and naval forces to South Korea two days after communist North Korea invades democratic South Korea. Truman says America is entering the Korean conflict to prevent the communist conquest of an independent nation.

Sometimes knowing people in high places is all it takes for undocumented immigrants to get legal in America. A member of Congress can step in and file a private immigration bill to legalize someone’s status. But that process got harder after the Trump administration stepped in.

VIDEO: If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. That old saying applies to a vibrant program in Washington, DC, instituted after local officials got tired of the cost and effort of cleaning up unlawful graffiti all over the capital city. Instead of prosecuting graffiti artists, they decided to pay them.

Food is an important part of Dr. Yum’s approach to treating her patients. The Virginia doctor doesn’t just talk to her patients and their families about being healthy. She goes all out by cooking nutritious meals for them using fresh ingredients from the clinic’s garden.  The ultimate goal is to change the culture around kids’ food.

Not exactly neighborly. India and Pakistan have fought three wars and been on the brink of another several times. That can be a worrying prospect since both countries have growing stockpiles of nuclear weapons. While mutually assured destruction is keeping hostilities from overheating, experts worry a misunderstanding or misadventure could escalate to a full-fledged war with nuclear weapons in play.

VIDEO: Instead of taking students to school, a bus in India is doing the teaching. India, the world’s third largest carbon polluter, wants more people to go green by installing solar panels on homes and buildings in the Indian capital. The idea might seem far-out to many, so the ‘solar bus’ is touring New Delhi showing people what the power of the sun can do.

Cell phones and satellites are the latest farm tools in Pakistan. The government is texting satellite data to farmers to help them estimate how much water their fields need. The goal is to prevent over-watering by combining ancient farming methods with the latest technology to reap a bountiful harvest.

Agriculture is fertile ground for the tech revolution. Researchers aim to bring artificial intelligence and big-data technology to small-scale, developing world farms in hopes of tackling one of the 21st century’s biggest challenges — feeding the world without wrecking the planet. That means squeezing more crops out of existing farmland on a budget with the help of Mr. Robot.
