On This Day in American History
On June 9, 1973, the thoroughbred horse named Secretariat becomes the first Triple Crown winner since 1948 after winning the Belmont Stakes. Secretariat ran the 1.5-mile race in 2:24, a world record that many doubt can ever be broken. The Triple Crown includes horse-racing’s most prestigious contests: the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

A need to bear arms? In the last three weeks, al-Shabab has killed 17 security officers in northeastern Kenya. In the wake of the attacks, government promises to provide more security forces to guard the population. But that’s not good enough for some local officals who are calling on the government to arm the community so that residents can protect themselves.
