Out of sight. The streets of the historic town of York Springs, Pennsylvania, are a lot quieter lately. The rural town that was once visited by George Washington and where a decisive Civil War battle was fought, is now home to a sizeable Latino population. But recent immigration arrests have sent many into hiding, creating stress for students at local schools as the children’s parents quit their jobs and stay mostly indoors to avoid being picked up and deported.

On June 7, 1776, a resolution introduced in Congress suggests changing the name of the new nation to the ‘United States of America,’ replacing the term ‘United Colonies,’ which has been in general use up until now.

Washington is buzzing with anticipation ahead of former FBI director James Comey’s appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russian meddling in last year’s presidential election. It will be Comey’s first public appearance since President Donald Trump fired him on May 9. Comey’s associates say he kept detailed notes of his White House meetings with the president. Here’s what to expect when the former FBI director appears before that Senate panel tomorrow.

Barriers separating traffic lanes and sidewalks are now in place on London bridges offering some protection from vehicle attacks, like the city’s two most recent terror incidents. But beyond these physical barriers, the question of how Britain can best defend itself is on the minds of many as British voters prepare to go to the polls.

A former top Muslim prosecutor in Britain says both the government and the Muslim community haven’t done enough to battle Islamic extremism. Nazir Afzal earned a national reputation for tackling honor-based violence and forced marriage in northwest England, which includes Manchester, site of last month’s suicide bombing at a pop concert. Azfal says there are grassroots efforts that are making a difference in fighting extremism and that it is Muslim women who are leading the way.

VIDEO: No good fish in the sea. The fishing wharf in Joal, Senegal is full of boats and fishermen with nets teeming with wriggling fish. But a closer look reveals that the fish are small and fishing boats have to venture farther out to fill their nets. Overfishing is draining the coast of West Africa, creating a crisis that’s felt at the markets and in homes.

The opposition made a strong showing in Cambodia’s local commune elections which could shake the ruling party’s three-decades-long hold on power. Before the voting, Prime Minister Hun Sen warned of civil war if his Cambodia People’s Party were to lose its grip on power. The opposition’s growing strength suggests that the national elections in 2018 will be a race between two parties, which could change the country’s political landscape.

Islamic State fighters in Mosul fired a poison mortar at Iraqi forces earlier this week in a failed attempt to rescue fellow IS fighters trapped in battle. A 30-year-old private in the  Iraqi army was among the soldiers impacted by the missile. In Mosul, he tells VOA what it feels like when poison gas blows into your face.
