On This Day in American History
On May 22, 1807, a grand jury indicts former US Vice President Aaron Burr on a charge of treason. Government prosecutors accuse Burr of levying war against the United States by taking part in a conspiracy to establish a separate confederacy made up of the Western states and territories. A jury eventually decides that Burr is not guilty.

VIDEO: There are allegations that a growing number of pro-Nazi extremists are infiltrating Germany’s military. It’s a sensitive topic in a country where 20th century Nazi history casts a long shadow. Other countries, including the United States and France, have uncovered extremists within their armed forces. We asked a military professor in Germany why joining the army appeals to extremists.

The appeal come just after Jakarta elected a governor who called for Islam to dominate politics and society. The remarks counter a growing movement to transform Indonesia into a nation ruled by Islamic law.

Property over people? A plan to move more than a million people out of their homes is sparking protest in Moscow. Russian authorities say about 8,000 short-story buildings are in disrepair, and they promise to move residents to better apartments. While some residents celebrate, others suspect corruption.
