Gone are the days when Bangalore, India, was dominated by call centers and American visa seekers. Today’s Bangalore is hip and happening with street art, microbreweries and Uber rides to meet venture capitalists. Recently rated as the most dynamic city in the world, here’s what’s going on in ‘India’s Silicon Valley.’

On This Day in American History
On March 16, 1802, the first military school in the United States, located at West Point, New York, is founded by Congress. The United States Military Academy, often known simply as West Point, is established to educate and train young men in the theory and practice of military science.

Covering the White House might sound like a glamorous job, but the truth is that journalists who report on the president spend a lot of their time in cramped spaces in the White House basement. VOA’s White House bureau chief gives us the scoop.

NAFTA could be good for everyone. So say several close observers of the trade deal who have a keen interest in entrepreneurship. At the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, talk turned to how a renegotiated North American Free Trade Agreement could benefit the United States, Mexico and Canada, and go a long way toward making North America the most competitive region in the world.

Even though they’re U.S. citizens, a number of Iranian Americans are afraid to leave the country during the Donald Trump era. In West Los Angeles’s Persian Square, everyone is preparing for Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. It’s a celebratory time when family members often travel to visit each other. But not this year.

Now a burnt-out ghost town, Mosul’s Dawasa neighborhood was once the center of city night life, with cinemas, billiard halls and restaurants. But residents say those days ended long before Islamic State militants showed up, with car bombings happening roughly every 10 days. VOA visits the area about a week after Iraqi forces re-took the area, and talks to residents who worry that the party is truly over.

QUICK TAKE VIDEO: The outside world is getting its first look at how Islamic State reduced the Mosul museum to rubble, destroying priceless antiquities. In western Mosul, VOA tours the destroyed museum where broken pieces of history can be spotted among the ruins.

Low visibility at the airport? Who are you going to call? Fog busters, that’s who. When fog settles over an airfield, it can lead to delays and be potentially dangerous for flyers. That’s why ground crews at an Oregon airport are taking matters in their own hands. When freezing fog threatens to delay takeoffs and landings, they use the same substance to clear the fog that’s needed to create it.
