After paying a ransom, Lindbergh, who came to fame in 1927 after becoming the first person to fly solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, and his wife Anne, are devastated to learn the toddler died the night of the kidnapping after his body is discovered near their home. Bruno Hauptmann, a German immigrant and carpenter, was convicted of the crime and executed in 1935. |
