SPECIAL REPORT: Conflicts between Christian farmers and Muslim cattle herders are fueling deadly attacks in Nigeria’s Kaduna state. On This Day in American History
On February 24, 1868, President Andrew Johnson becomes the first U.S. president to be impeached. The House of Representatives votes to impeach the sitting president for violating a law that prohibits the president from firing important government officials without Senate approval. Johnson had defied the law by dismissing the Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton. After an 11-week trial, President Johnson escapes removal from office by one vote.

All in the family: Opinions about Donald Trump are split at an Arizona family business where the parent owners, who support the president, hope for tax relief. Iran seems to think there’s nothing like a little hands-on training for its military students, so it has started using Syrian battlefields as a proving ground for officers in training. Despite the growing casualties, Iranian officials say the country’s military continues to benefit from engaging in battles in war-torn Syria.

More than half of the world’s displaced people are children. And although they’re as bright and curious as any other kids, the barriers they face when it comes to receiving a quality early education sometimes seem insurmountable. That’s where Elmo and Sesame Street come in.
