President Donald Trump’s travel ban and its legal challenges have caused anxiety and confusion for people in two Kenya refugee camps who are waiting to resettle in the United States. VOA goes to camps in Kakuma, Kenya, to speak with refugees whose futures hang in the balance.

On This Day in American History
On February 9, 1965, the United States sends its first combat troops into South Vietnam. President Lyndon B. Johnson orders the deployment of the U.S. Marine Corps Hawk air defense missile battalion to Da Nang to provide protection for a key U.S. airbase there.

The U.S. separation of powers is getting a workout as legal challenges to President Trump’s executive order on immigration wind their way through the courts. One of the 20th century’s most successful self-made women, the child of former slaves, grew up on a plantation. Madame C.J.Walker made her fortune by producing hair care products for African American women. A pioneer who fought against discrimination and injustice, Walker was one of the nation’s first African American millionaires.

An American is the new president of Somalia. Former Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmajo, is a dual U.S.-Somali citizen. Farmajo, 54, spent much of his adult life in Buffalo, New York, where he raised a family and held various jobs in New York state government.
