As President Donald Trump begins his first full work week as commander in chief, VOA examines voter expectations for the Trump years. For people who supported the president, we want to know what Trump must do to keep their support, and for those who didn’t, we’re curious what it will take to win them over.

On January 23, 1845, the United States Congress decides that all national elections must be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Tuesday is chosen to allow one day of travel — horses are the primary mode of transportation at this time — after the Sabbath.

The nation marked the 44th anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision yesterday with a new U.S. president who has said he wants Roe v. Wade overturned. Donald Trump promised to appoint an anti-abortion justice to fill a vacancy at the nation’s highest court and wants to remove government funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest provider of women’s health care, including abortions. More than four decades after the historic ruling, we wondered how Americans feel about Roe v. Wade today.

Many forms of communication were banned in eastern Mosul during Islamic State’s two-and-a-half-year rule. People who broke that rule faced imprisonment or death. Despite the danger, the internet was still available in much of the city. In Iraq, VOA speaks with a man who says he kept his neighborhood online despite beatings and threats from the terror group.

Donald Trump is already saving Americans some money in Russia. A chain of Russian Army stores, under Russia’s Ministry of Defense, offered a 10 percent discount to American citizens in the days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration as a way of expressing its hope for warmer relations between the two countries.

Imagine designing a shirt or sweater tailored just to you — in size, style and fit — and then printing it out on a 3D printer in just 45 minutes. As more consumers shop online and opt for virtual carts instead of physical ones, retailers are considering flashy technologies to entice shoppers back into brick-and-mortar stores.

Former President Barack Obama began his first term in 2009 with the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for his support of multilateral diplomacy, nuclear disarmament, combating climate change.
