| On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 from London to New York explodes over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members aboard. Eleven Lockerbie residents die on the ground. Authorities soon learn a bomb hidden inside a cassette player in the cargo area brought the plane down. The disaster is believed to be an attack against the United States. Two Libyan intelligence agents are later charged in the case. |
