| On December 12, 1770, six of the eight British soldiers responsible for the ‘Boston Massacre’ are acquitted of all charges. The soldiers had been posted to pre-revolutionary Boston to quell civil unrest. On March 5, 1770, they fired into a rioting mob, killing five men and injuring six others. Two of the soldiers are found guilty of manslaughter, but are released after each is branded on his thumb as punishment. |
