The United States just barely missed its refugee limit for the 2016 fiscal year. The U.S. closed out 12 months of debate over refugee admissions policies just five people short of the administration’s target of 85,000. It’s the closest the refugee program has come to meeting the presidentially established ceiling in more than two decades. Here’s where the refugees came from and what’s on tap for next year.

On October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln announces that the nation will celebrate the official Thanksgiving holiday on November 26, 1863. He declares the holiday will officially be commemorated on the fourth Thursday of every November.

A new theme park in Iran teaches children how to fight in battle and fire weapons at its perceived Western enemies. The ‘Park of the Revolution’s Children’ trains young people to shoot at virtual fixed and moving targets including some decorated with the U.S. flag.

It’s not quite like cutting off your nose to spite your face but not everyone is on board with Zimbabwe’s plan to save the endangered species from extinction by dehorning its rhinos to discourage poachers.
