NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s decision to protest racial inequality by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem isn’t really new. Athletic activism had been on hiatus since the 1960s and 70s, until Kaepernick and some of his fellow football players resurrected it. All of the uproar surrounding their actions made us wonder, does this type of dissent have any lasting impact?

On September 14, 1901, Theodore Roosevelt, 42, becomes president after his predecessor, President William McKinley, dies from an assassin’s bullet. Roosevelt goes on to do more than any president before him to conserve wild western lands.
