Worries that Russia could try to manipulate the presidential election with cyberattacks this November have government officials scrambling to protect the integrity of America’s electronic voting systems. On Sept. 1, 1864, the southern city of Atlanta, Georgia, a critical Confederate stronghold, falls to the North’s Union troops. It is one of the U.S. Civil War’s most decisive battles. Union General William Sherman’s army eventually burns down much of the city.
