She’s made history but can Hillary Clinton get voters to trust her? Recent polls show 54 percent of people have an unfavorable impression of the Democratic presidential candidate. Is this what it will take to change their minds?

On This Day in American History
On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorizes the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the civilian agency that would be responsible for coordinating America’s activities in space and, as the president said, further equip the United States for leadership in the space age.

Clinton doesn’t have the women’s vote locked up, despite her groundbreaking role as the first female presidential nominee of a major U.S. political party. It turns out that gender and experience are not what determines who you vote for, this is.

Trade isn’t usually the hottest campaign issue but it’s critically important this election year. States that have lost manufacturing jobs to overseas plants could play a key role in determining who the next U.S. president will be.

Islamophobia could be driving more Muslims into politics, not just as voters but as future political leaders. U.S. Muslim political organizers are looking for ways to motivate more Muslim Americans to seek political office and win because, as one says, “Being involved in politics is a form of worship in Islam.”

VIDEO: Ivory Coast is the world’s top producer of cocoa but most of it is sent abroad to chocolate makers in Europe and elsewhere. It’s the kind of thing that happens a lot throughout Africa – massive exports of raw materials but few finished goods. VOA is in Abidjan where several Ivorian entrepreneurs are working to change that formula, one Ivorian chocolate bar at a time.

India’s parliament has passed a revised labor law that bans children under 14 from working. Sounds good, right? The problem for some critics is that the bill makes exceptions for children who work in a family business — and that includes extended family. Suddenly, anyone can conveniently become an aunt or an uncle.

No water on earth is as pure as the H20 found in the South Pole. VOA blogger Refael Klein, who lives and works at the bottom of the world, is drinking water from melted ice that was frozen back in the 15th century. If you’re wondering what it tastes like, so were we.

Take-out food tells us a lot about American history because what we eat and how we eat it often reflects the changes taking place in society at any particular time. Here’s the deal with pizza, Chinese food and what racism has to do with taking food to go.
