The United States is reeling from a sniper ambush that killed 5 police officers and wounded 7 other officers Thursday night in Dallas. Outrage over the recent shooting deaths of two African-American men by police is said to have motivated the Dallas suspect. Today, there was a swift outpouring of emotional reaction from political leaders.

On July 8, 1776, the 2,000-pound bell known as the ‘Liberty Bell’, rings out from the tower of the Pennsylvania State House — now Independence Hall — in Philadelphia, calling on citizens to gather for the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. Some called it ‘the chime that changed the world’.

A bomb robot was sent in after negotiations broke down with the Dallas shooter, who not only killed the five police offers, but also injured seven others. The remote-controlled vehicles usually disarm explosives. This one delivered the bomb.

Active shooter situations, like the one in Dallas that left five police officers dead, are on the rise in the United States. There were more than 130 incidents just in the first half of this year.
