No press restrictions in Cox’s Bazar

The world’s biggest refugee camp is in Cox’s Bazar.

About this project

This project was produced by VOA’s Extremism Watch and Press Freedom desks. It includes a snapshot of restrictions and challenges for media covering COVID-19 worldwide and personal views of journalists who spoke with VOA.

There is no opportunity to maintain required social distances because the camps are so crowded. We are visiting camps and talking with the refugees as well as the host community. There is a lockdown to prevent coronavirus infection. But there is no restriction for any journalist. We are visiting hospitals, isolation centers, and relevant spots to collect information and video footage. Sometimes we require permission, but we are able to get it easily.
